Year 5 entered the enchanting world of King Arthur and walked through the gates of Camelot as they performed their Play in a Week ‘What a Knight’
The show was a brilliant success and showcased Year 5’s incredible talent and collaborative skills.
Throughout the week, Year 5 learnt lines, sang songs, created props and even helped prepare the lighting for the show. It was wonderful to see everyone support each other and help each other give their best performance.
Linking a performance to classroom learning is an essential aspect of education that allows children to demonstrate their creativity and understanding. During our topic unit ‘Battles in the Past’, Year 5 explored King Arthur and his historical significance. They also explored folk tales linked to this era in English. Year 5’s PIAW allowed the children to bring their learning to life and transport themselves to the period of time they explored in class.
Plays in a week allow students to showcase their creativity, all while enhancing their communication and collaboration skills. It also helps build confidence and self-expression. Many of our Year 5 challenged themselves during this PIAW and they certainly gained important skills that will help them as they progress through the rest of this year and beyond. A perfect example of what it means to ‘Create Your Future’.
