Students at BSB Shunyi have a variety of ways to develop their leadership skills. Our student leaders are active voices shaping our service culture and making positive changes through whole-school projects. Students build their confidence, decision-making skills, and teamwork starting right here at school.
Over the last few weeks in Primary, lots of students have been busy applying for roles as Student Leaders for this academic year. Our first elections were for our Head Students and lots of Year 6 students did amazing speeches that were very inspiring, outlining what they would do in the role of Head Student. After gathering votes from the student body, feedback from their teachers across the school and the Senior Leadership Team, we are very pleased to announce that Jasmine and Chihiro are our Head Students for 2024-25.
Head Students: Chihiro and Jasmine
House Captains
In Year 6, we also held our House Captain elections for the Normans, Saxons, Vikings and Romans. Students who are passionate about sport and leading their House stood for election and gave wonderful speeches about how they would make their House even better. Our House Captains have a range of responsibilities across the school, from overseeing our PAWS each week, running the Tuck Shop and organising House matches so candidates had to explain to their Houses how they would fulfil all these tasks. After some close elections, we are excited to announce our House Captains below:
Normans: Elli and Luke
Romans: Dojun and Ellie
Saxons: Faith and Jaehoon
Vikings: Vivi and Chanyoon
"The House Captain role is very important because I need to work with students from across the whole school and be a good role model." - Vivi
Student Council
Our Head Students are going to need a team to work with so over the last week we have been electing our Student Council. Students in Year 3-6 thought carefully about the qualities they had that would make them a good councillor and what they would do to make a difference in our school. Each year group and our German Primary School held elections and many students were brave enough to stand in front of their classmates and give inspiring speeches.
Following the elections, we are pleased to announce the Student Council for 2024-25:
Senior: Charlotte
Year 6: Dora and Hana
Year 5: Olivia and William
Year 4: Monty and Rona
Year 3: Gwen and Lincoln
GPS: Nina and Philipp
"I am excited to be a Student Councillor because I want to collaborate and make the school better place." - Monty
Eco-Committee
We also have a new Eco-Committee for this academic year. Many students in Year 3-6 applied for the role and applications were submitted in the form of videos, posters, letters, speeches and more. It was clear that lots of our students have been inspired by previous Eco-Committees and are keen to build on their great work and make BSB even more environmentally friendly and truly make a difference to our planet. The applications went to a judging panel of staff from across the school and the following students were chosen for their dedication to the environment and their strong leadership qualities:
Year 6: Eunchae
Year 5: Anna, Anaiya, Jiu, Kaylee, Mia
Year 4: Charly, Gabriel and Isabella
Year 3: Bernice and Doguhan
Head of Student Leadership
We are also very excited to introduce our new Head of Student Leadership, Mr Sparks. Mr Sparks is a Year 4 teacher and has worked at BSB for 2 years but been in Beijing for 6 years. He is passionate about helping students discover their full potential so they can make a difference to our school whilst also becoming strong leaders and role models. He will be working with all our Student Leaders and ensuring they have a very successful year.
Primary Assemblies
Our student leaders were announced during the Primary Assemblies by our Head of Primary Ms. Abigal, Deputy Head of Primary Ms. Brown and Head of Student Leaders Mr. Sparks. The student leaders proudly introduced themselves and why they want to be student leaders. Please see a few photos of some of the students presenting.
