Well done to our Year 6 students who have successfully completed their Play in a Week (PIAW)! Starting from learning the lines, the songs, the dance moves to creating the costumes, props, stage, lighting and sound effects – they did it all in a week. Thanks to all the teachers who worked with them on this ambitious project which helps students learn about teamwork, creativity, resilience, and adaptability.
Please watch highlights in the above video.
Let’s hear from our students what they’ve learnt:
“We had a wonderful week! I have learned so much!”
“I never knew, I could act like that on stage!”
“Oh, I had so much fun!”
“I got to know so many other students this week.”
“ I really overcame my fears on stage.”
Storyline:
In the play "Go for Gold," Suzie Swift, a modern-day athlete, contemplates withdrawing from the Olympic Games. As she discusses this decision with her trainer, Suzie learns about the rich history of the Olympic Games, which trace back to Ancient Greece. The play transports the audience to the ancient world, where the Spartans, known as warriors, are poised to fight the Athenians. However, the Olympic Games serve as a peaceful interlude, as fighting must be paused during this period. The gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece are introduced, and they each support a favorite athlete, Milo. As Milo prepares for the Games, Hades, the god of the underworld, attempts to manipulate the events in favor of one of his own athletes. Zeus, the king of the gods, discovers this plot and intervenes to ensure the integrity of the Games. In the end, Suzie, the modern-day athlete, decides to participate in the Olympic Games, having gained a deeper appreciation for the long and storied history of this renowned sporting event.
Our collaboration with The Juilliard School enriches our students’ love of dance, drama and music. Play in a Week is a great example of how our everyday BSB performing arts curriculum inspires students’ creativity, teamwork and resilience. Click to read more.
