Dear Parents,
We are delighted to share the details of two exciting competition opportunities for BSB students. These competitions allow students to challenge themselves and demonstrate their progress in Maths. We would love to see as many of our students as possible representing BSB.
Competition 1
Math Kangaroo
Math Kangaroo is the largest youth maths competition in the world!
Math Kangaroo is proposed by Peter O'Halloran, an Australian mathematician and teacher, in the 1980's. In 1991, this idea was taken up in Paris, France. Very quickly, it spread throughout Europe. The competition began to be called "Kangaroo" because of its Australian origin. The main purpose of Math Kangaroo is to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in math, by providing students with an opportunity to compare their abilities against the abilities of other students, from different countries around the world. Math Kangaroo is now the largest math competition for school students in the world. Up to now, it has been held in 97 countries and regions, in 2019, more than 6.3 million students from all over the world participated. There are about one million participants in Russia and Germany each year and more than 0.3 million participants are from France, Brazil, Czech Republic, Poland. Over 0.1 million participants are from Spain, Austria, Netherlands, Sweden and other countries.

Mathematics and computing contests are a fun way for students to grow their problem-solving skills, build confidence and get creative with math and computer science.
The Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) contests are written by students around the world. Designed by teams of expert educators for Grades 5 to 12, CEMC contests are a great fit for students with a range of abilities—from learners who want to explore math and computer science and develop their confidence, to advanced students who want to stretch their limits. This makes them CEMC to be suitable for all students irrespective of their mathematics levels. It enhances students’ interest in mathematics and computer science.
All Key Stage 3 (Year 7-Year 9) will take this test.
