Year 5 - Mission to Mars!

Year 5 - Mission to Mars! - year-5--mission-to-mars

The children have been very busy in Year 5 where they have been involved in range of exciting activities over the past few weeks. During the week beginning the 12th of November they had two very special presentations from Henry James Evans who talked to the children about global warming as well as his expedition to Antarctica.

On Wednesday the 21st November parents were invited to the Year 5 learning look where the children were able to showcase what they had learned in our ‘Mission to Mars’ topic. This was done in a variety of ways where they presented ‘green screen’ documentaries, explored AR technology, completed some retro space art, designed some Zodiac signs and completed an experiment related to air resistance. There was a great turnout from parents which was fantastic to see!

On Monday the 26th of November, the children dressed up in national dress or their county’s colours for our ‘Go Global’ wow day. Here they completed an exciting trading activity which helped them to understand more about the different natural resources in a range of countries. They later researched and presented information on a variety of countries around the world looking at things like natural resources, poverty, wages, cost of living and tourism. It was a really fun day and Year 5 now look forward to continuing their ‘go global’ Topic.

On a final note, a huge thank you to all the Year 5 students and parents who brought so many cakes in for our bake sale on Friday 23rd November.  This was a huge success where an amazing 6000RMB was raised for charity in just one hour!
