As the year is winding down to an end, the Year 2s are showing off all the wonderful writing skills they have learnt this year.
We read our vehicle text, ‘Jack and the Baked Beanstalk’. The children practised their prediction skills by coming up with different scenarios of what could happen once Jack climbs up the beanstalk. Based on previous stories we have read about grotesque giants, we completed a shared writing activity to write a letter to Jack to persuade him NOT to go up the beanstalk!
Once we completed the story, we found out that the gentle giant is actually friendly. The children then independently wrote persuasive letters with three good reasons to convince Jack to go up the Beanstalk. They really impressed with the detail they added to their letters and the amazing alliteration, different sentence types and complex expanded noun phrases they included. Throughout the year, the children have been practising how to edit and improve their own work. During their independent writing process, they demonstrated exceptional editing skills before publishing their work in their neatest handwriting.
