The Year 1s have had a busy yet fantastic week of learning here at BSB Sanlitun. It has been full of creativity, knowledge and of course fun. The students have been practising for their upcoming Year 1 performance, they held a wonderful dressrehearsal in front of Reception and Year 2. Everyone was really impressed by their hard work and acting skills.
Every student should be extremely proud of their commitment and collaborative efforts during the build up to the show which took place on Wednesday and Thursday.
In English class this week, the students of Year 1 have been learning how to write a fact file. The topic of choice this week was penguins. The students learned about habitats and what penguins like to eat. They brushed up on previously taught knowledge of adjectives to describe penguins and what they look like, and finally they wrote about what penguins can do using some fantastic verbs.
In Maths this week, the students have explored directions varying from left and right, up and down, forwards and backwards. It was fantastic to see the students get involved with all the dance movements and display their newly learnt knowledge during the activities and exercises.

Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, and it extends far beyond literacy. It is transdisciplinary, meaning children naturally integrate their knowledge of phonics into storytelling, create maths stories, and weave in elements of science, curiosity, and their understanding of the world.
