Reception had their second STEAM Week recently and the children were so excited to take part in the various activities that were on offer.
We kicked it off with a ‘Dancing Popcorn’ experiment and the students have become more confident asking how and why questions and discussing their thoughts, hypotheses and observations with one another.
As STEAM activities combine science, technology, engineering, maths, and arts, the children have engaged in a wide variety of activities to encourage them to problem-solve creatively and use their ever strengthening critical thinking skills.
They have taken part in ‘Balloon Inflation Magic’, mixing together vinegar with baking soda to inflate a balloon. They have been displaying their creativity while creating fizzy paintings and have discussed what colours they have created. They have spent extra time in the Early Years Maker Space and made rain in a jar and built structures with a variety of materials throughout the week.
Through their play, the Reception children are learning, exploring, experimenting, taking risks, working together with one another, and acquiring important skills through hands-on play-based learning experiences.
