There are many different ways to learn a new language, just like the children at BSB Sanlitun, doing different activities and making some crafts in Chinese lessons.
It’s been very exciting for our young learner in Reception to learn the new topic - space! Children have been encouraged to design their own alien mask based on their imagination through the story of ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. In addition to enjoying the fun of doing hands-on activities, it has been impressive to see how they use the wonderful vocabulary to describe patterns, shapes, and colors. In Year 2, children have been working hard to learn how to use Pinyin to look up Chinese characters in a dictionary. In our school we have so many ambitious leaners, and collaboration isn't just a means to work together towards a common goal, it’s also an excellent way to encourage creativity. It leads to the exchange of unique ideas. This can result in more innovative solutions and creative problem-solving that may not have been possible with just one child working on the task.
In Year 5, after learning a variety of classic fairy tales, the children accepted the challenge and independently completed fairy tales full of imagination and creativity from planning to completion. In their stories, the little flowers can talk, and useless garbage becomes citizens who have the right to vote. I can’t wait to read more of these fascinating stories!
