Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and has made players like Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Yao Ming into household names. Given its global popularity, and the awareness of basketball in China, it’s no surprise that BSB Sanlitun students from Year 1 to Year 6 are all very excited for this PE unit of work.
Key areas of focus have been dribbling, jump stop and pivot and the simple bounce pass. In our lessons, students repeatedly drill these elements until there are comfortable moving the ball and their ‘muscle memory’ starts to develop. Learning these key skills well means that players are less likely to commit fouls like a ‘travel’ (moving whilst holding the ball) and also will be strong defensively by knowing how to protect the ball from opposing players. After all, the foundation of good offensive play is always a strong defence!
Next week (week beginning 12th June) will be our House Basketball Tournament, our final house tournament of this academic year. Our house tournaments have been very successful in ensuring that all students get involved with competitive sport and have the fun of representing their house. We are looking forward to seeing some exciting battles on the court!

What a wonderful day we had hosting our annual Chinese New Year Temple Fair on campus on Sunday. This great community event included games, a Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, a face changing performance, traditional crafts, a bouncy castle, food vendors and gift stalls. Thanks to everyone who made the event possible and magical!
Before the holiday break, we had the privilege of hosting a memorable awards ceremony to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students in sporty After-School Activities (ASAs). This special event allowed us to recognise the dedication, effort, and talent demonstrated by our students throughout the term.
Today, our students had the wonderful opportunity to take part in two live broadcasts with CNN and on the important topic of Climate Change.
