The topic story book in Nursery was Julia Donaldson’s The Snail and The Whale. The children enjoyed talking about how big the whale was and how small the snail was and loved that the snail hitched a ride on the Whales tail!
In this topic we talked about the patterns we saw on the snail’s shell and had lots of fun making our own patterns with lots of different materials, such as, paint and loose parts. The children enjoyed doing some sea animal themed yoga and even listened to whale noises!
We explored capacity and the children used water and coloured rice to fill different sized containers to half-full and full, but their favourite part was pouring the materials out to make the containers empty.
A big surprise for the children this week was getting some snails they could observe and look after. This has caused lots of chatter about what snails eat and drink and the children are showing great care in looking after them.
