What a wonderful week it has been for the Year 1 children!
This week was International Week where we celebrated all the countries and nationalities we come from or identify with. We began our week discussing a few characters from our Oxford Reading Tree books, which the children are very familiar with. We made Biff, Chip, Kipper, Mum, Dad and Floppy stick puppets and took them around the world on an adventure! Before we could go on our journey, we made magic keys out of clay, which could help us teleport to different countries.
Later in the week when our magic keys were ready, we travelled to 5 different countries. Spain, America, Scotland, Barbados and England! We had a range of different activities to do in each country. In Barbados, we made delicious smoothies. In America, we made the American flag. In England, we made beefeaters on a stick. In Spain, we made fans and in Scotland we made and learnt all about the Lochness monster!
It was great to see how excited the Year 1s were able to learn all about the different countries. They really enjoyed International Week and even got to show off their native costumes during our whole school parade!
