Who thought you could run, work on your teamwork skills and learn Maths skills all at the same time? Well, that’s what the Elephants were doing when learning about ordering numbers.
After recapping their Year 1 place value skills and gaining some new Year 2 knowledge, we headed to the playground to show our understanding of two-digit numbers. The children spread number cards from 1 to 100 all over the basketball court and lined up in two teams ready for the Number Ordering Battle! After the countdown, the Elephants raced into the basketball to collect a number to take back to their team. Once back with their team they worked collaboratively to order their numbers from the smallest to the biggest.
We repeated this many times with the children going on to collect 2 or even 3 numbers each before ordering them with their team. It was great to see the children working on their place value skills, teamwork skills and some fitness too. It was a bonus that the sun was shining, and we could enjoy that too! We look forward to many more outdoor learning experiences this year.

Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, and it extends far beyond literacy. It is transdisciplinary, meaning children naturally integrate their knowledge of phonics into storytelling, create maths stories, and weave in elements of science, curiosity, and their understanding of the world.
This term, Year 2 have been learning about many interesting people in our ‘What makes someone inspirational?' Topic. They have explored space pioneers, technology forerunners, civil right activists, inventors and many other inspiring individuals.
