Bug and Roll

Bug and Roll - bug-and-roll
Bug and Roll We have enjoyed our new topic in our Pre-Nursery - bugs life!

We have enjoyed our new topic in our Pre-Nursery - bugs life!

It has been very exciting having special friends visiting us over this week - silkworms. Each class talked about what food they like, how they move as well as the different stages in their life cycle.

Children have been very gentle with them, carefully holding them, and asking to feed them leaves. There were some lovely conversations among children. For example, 'They are sleeping. Don’t talk too loud.'

We have also been learning about insects via a range of learning activities and experiences. Children were provided with a bug making activity in which they observed the features of each bug and used open resources to make ladybugs, ants, bees, butterflies, caterpillars, spiders, cicadas, etc. We made crafts of caterpillars, did sponge painting of butterflies, and sang a few songs such as Bug'n Roll, Butterfly Ladybug Bumblebee, Caterpillar, etc.

Another pleasant learning experience is that each class has gone on a bug hunt outside. It was great to see children enjoy the excitement of checking the bug hunt list, looking around the soft play area and the playground and searching for the bugs.

We have extended sentences of new vocabulary, further developed our understanding of silkworm and caterpillar’s life cycle, and everyone has actively been engaged in all the play-based learning activities!
