In the Tadpoles class this week we have been learning all about farm animals with our focus story 'Old Macdonald Had A Farm'.
The children enjoyed exploring the new sensory tray set up like a farm. We talked about where on the farm the different animals lived and what they liked to do on the farm. The horses in the stable, the cows munching grass, and the pigs rolling in the mud.
At circle time the children listened as their teacher read them the story of 'Old Macdonald Had A Farm' and used finger puppets and stick puppets to help the children join in and retell the story. We also have a song that goes along with the book and the children enjoyed singing along as the teacher turned the pages. We learned all the Makaton signs for the different animals and talked about the different noises that the animals made. We even played a guessing game with the secret sensory box. The children all tried to guess what animal was inside the box from feeling the shape of the animals with their hands and hearing the different noises that they made.
We used the story to be extra creative this week and make many art and craft projects. Our favourite craft this week was our hand print farm animals. The children enjoyed the sensory experience of finger painting and then created the different animals by adding some unique features. Well done our little Tadpoles!
