We have recently completed our ‘Pete the Cat’ theme in our Pre-Nursery classrooms!
We looked at two different books, Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons and Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes. The books both included some lovely songs that mirror the attitude of just keep going, even if life is throwing some challenges at you.
Emotion is a key theme from the book, Pete is regularly asked “is he sad?" because of the different things that are occurring. Therefore, we completed different activities that were related to emotions. We rearranged the facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows) in different ways to make different emotions. We also talked about a variety of situations and what we would feel if these things were happening to us.
For mathematics we completed several activities. We sorted buttons by colour and matched them to a number, we also counted, added and removed buttons to a Pete the Cat we had in the classroom.
We were certainly busy in Pre-Nursery and we learned new things everyday – there was a lot of excitement and happiness!
We are beginning our Christmas theme and cannot wait to get stuck into all the different activities, crafts and singing we have planned for that!
