Recently in English, Year 5 have been looking at slam poetry.
After enjoying watching some examples of slam poetry, they were able to come up with a success criteria of what constitutes a slam poem. We asked the children to create their own slam poetry based upon some topics that they could really get passionate about, such as: gender equality, the use of plastics and the environment and peace and justice to name just a few. After practising their poems, complete with gestures and actions, they performed their slam poems in-front of the whole year group. They did an absolutely fantastic job and their creativity really shone through. Well done, Year 5!
