The MIT challenge this term was based upon animal adaptations.

Parrots enjoyed researching the different adaptations of animals and discussing how each one is suited to their environment. Children were encouraged to be curious for the duration of this project as they analysed exactly what each body part of an animal was for.

Children identified variety of different adaptations such as fins, gills, wings, claws and horns. They then selected the most useful and used their connection finding skills to decide how these could help people. The results were intriguing!

One prototype dispenses bioluminescent liquid (found in fireflies) that would leave a trail to help you find your way back if lost. Another utilized chameleon skin physiology so that their shoes could change colour to match the environment.

The children collaborated exceedingly well; they supported each other’s ideas and showed excellent turn taking skills when creating the shoes.
