Next Wednesday, five students will travel to Shanghai to take part in the first Nord Anglia Performing Arts China Festival.

This event, hosted by BISS Puxi, will bring together students from schools across the China region to form two orchestras. The students will work together over three days with guest conductor Oliver Hagen and will give a performance of some wonderful, ambitious repertoire at the Huiyin Theatre on Saturday 9th March.

Taking part in such an ambitious venture is no mean feat and, in daily rehearsals, I am delighted with the commitment shown by Sanlitun students Tanya Liu, Qinger Li, Ethan Kei, Thomas MacCormac and Jack Peart. I hope that, upon their return, they will feel inspired to develop their musicianship even further and that others will feel inspired to follow in their footsteps. There has been wonderful energy and encouragement from home, too; this support will undoubtedly help to make the event a wonderful success.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience preparing and performing with a full-scale orchestra. Along the way, they will have the chance to develop a wide range of invaluable skills, form new friendships, gain an appreciation of how orchestras operate and experience the great satisfaction of taking part in making something very special. I am certain, moreover, that they will bring back memories that will last a lifetime.
