This term’s theme of ‘Battles’ has been applied to many of our subjects this term in Year 5 and in English, the children have been looking at battling to get points of view across as part of our persuasive writing unit.
They have become confident identifying the features of persuasive writing and have practiced using these features, from modal verbs to flattery in class. Indeed, it has been nice and entertaining to have flattery and compliments being used in attempts to get the listener to come around to their point of view!
This week, they also looked at the use of persuasion in speeches and have even created persuasive songs. We look forward to seeing them refine their persuasion skills next week in order to persuade parents of their point of view. Let’s see if they apply their new-found persuasive skills at home…
