The Year 3 Camping Trip to Nanjing was a great success last weekend!
When we departed from school at 9:00am to Beijing South Railway, we had lots of very excited campers! After 4 hours on the train (and many ‘Are we there yet?’) we finally arrived in Nanjing and made the last part of our journey to The British School of Nanjing by bus.
After a warm welcome, the parents and children set up their tents, which were remarkably easier to assemble than anticipated, and made themselves at home. On the first night, it was pizza for dinner before all the campers settled down for bed ready for the early start on Saturday.
At 7:00am breakfast was served and the children were raring to get on with the day’s activities. They were split into different groups and participated in activities such as clay modelling, nature art, Mint Engineering, climbing and a hike up the mountain.
In the afternoon, a fantastic catering company prepared a delicious BBQ before the award ceremony began. The British School of Beijing, Sanlitun scooped up awards for: Tidiest Tent, Happiest Camper, Most Helpful Camper and The Teacher’s Choice Award. The high spirits must have persuaded many of our campers to relocate their tents outside and get proper camping experience even though it was forecasted to rain.
With a wet start to Sunday morning, it didn’t seem to dampen our camper’s moods. After a quick refuel with breakfast, they collaborated well to pack their tents and belongings up ready to start the journey back to Beijing! Although we had some very tired children (and parents), a quick pit stop at Starbucks soon refreshed us all!
