Since the beginning of the year, our Key stage 2 children have been improving their water confidence and developing the individual stroke techniques to become a competent swimmer.

A large part of the lessons is challenging and exciting, giving them the knowledge and performing opportunity to enable them to swim a variety of strokes such as freestyle, back and breast stroke. The children are also taught critical self-rescue skills such as how to enter and exit the water.

Two times swimming gold medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Rebecca Adlington is an ambassador for swimming in schools, promoting the importance of every child being able to swim 25m before leaving primary school. This supports everything we strive to achieve at BSB Sanlitun, building confidence in the pool whilst having fun and learning life-saving skills.

As with all Physical Education (PE) lessons there is a huge importance on values and behaviours as children progress. A range of important qualities such as showing kindness, respect, resilience and collaboration have been encouraged and used throughout the unit of work.

All of the skills and values the children have enhanced and shown since the start of the year in swimming were apparent at the fantastic BSB Sanlitun Annual Swimming Gala 2018, held at BSB Shunyi. Every student can be extremely proud of their efforts and achievements!
