The Year 1’s have had a busy week enjoying lots of exciting book week activities!
They listened to the poem ‘The Sound Collector’ by Roger McGough, identifying all the sounds that the sound collector takes away! They then put their own sounds to this poem using percussion instruments, before performing the poem as a class.
We explored the story ‘Beegu’ by Alexis Deacon. Paying particular attention to the main character and how he feels at certain parts of the story. We realised that Beegu is lonely and needs friends and so we decided to make him a friend! The children helped to make salt dough before using this to create another character as a friend for Beegu. They chose a scene from the story and adapted it through role play to include their new character. We all agreed that the children’s new versions are much better as it means that Beegu no longer feels lonely!
The children even got to enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate as they shared their favourite stories with each other. The highlight of the week for the children was dressing up as a character from a story. They all came to school super excited to show off their costumes as well as to see each other’s. I am sure you’ll agree that everyone looks fantastic!
