At the recently concluded Wellington Model United Nations Conference, BISS Puxi delegates did a marvellous job not only as ambassadors of the school but also, as able representatives of the countries assigned to them. Our delegation, ranging from our enthusiastic Year 6s to the experienced IB students gave a positive account of themselves as they presented their opening statements, engaged in the lobbying and merging of resolutions and debated passionately. Those who were attending their first MUN Conference learned valuable lessons on how to raise points of order, vote for amendments of clauses and whole resolutions as well as avoid making reference to first person language.
Our General Assembly Chairs, Vera Woo and Salma Gichana, emerged as strong leaders in their respective committee rooms, ably controlling proceedings and ensuring that debating was conducted in a fair and efficient manner. Two of our youngest delegates, Remi Maurizot and Dhyana Parekh, received honourable mentions for their active participation. To cap it up, the following delegates scooped the “Best Delegate Awards” in their respective committees:
1. Amy Jeon: Security Council, Ecuador
2. Fiona Lin: World Health Organisation, China
3. Ryan Kim: Disarmament Commission, China
The MUN team of Directors, Ms. Ogechi Osedumme, Mrs. Doshila Neergheen and Mr. Joseph Gichana are extremely proud of the effort and commitment displayed by the entire delegation and look forward to the final MUN conference of the year at Suzhou Singapore International School from 17 to 19 May.
