At BISS Puxi, we think education beyond traditional methods isn’t just useful, but essential. Through our charity work, students develop skills including empathy, relationship building, organisational skills, communications and leadership.
It allows them to see the world from a new perspective and understand the value of doing good in the community. The school works with selected charities at local, national and international levels.
As part of our School Service Programme, your child will have the opportunity to take part in projects, and be involved in events that allow them to support the local community, and experience the wider world.
By taking part in social service activities, your child will demonstrate that they can:
The Service Programme is made up of three key components: School Service, Local Service and Global Service.
In September 2015, world leaders came together to commit to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development designed to achieve three goals within 15 years. These goals include: ending extreme poverty, fighting inequality and injustice and fixing climate change.
This gives BISS Puxi students the opportunity to engage in an ambitious global project that can make a difference to how the world will evolve over the next 15 years.
This overlaps with our partnership with UNICEF which challenges our students to think about what they can do to make a difference – locally and globally. Our Social Impact Programme introduces students to the UN Sustainable Development 2030 agenda. Each year UNICEF and Nord Anglia invite students to work on a Global Challenge, with themes as wide-ranging as clean energy and peace and justice, to think of innovative solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems.
Water Aid is an international charity which works with local partners in different countries to help communities access safe water and sanitation. By working with the charity here in China, students learn how effective water management continues to be a critical global issue, how they can contribute to its development – and the affect it has on real lives.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE CLOSE TO HOME
Heart to Heart is a Shanghai base charity, based right here in Shanghai. It provides corrective surgery for Chinese children from all over China with congenital heart disease (CHD) whose parents are unable to afford the surgery.
Throughout the year our student and parent community fundraise ensuring more children gain the life saving surgery.
