NAE-MIT Hacking Challenge

NAE-MIT Hacking Challenge This year's #NAEMIT Hacking Challenge challenged our students to learn about sustainable living and using their ingenuity and creativity to hack an old household item into something new!

This year the task challenged our students to really think about Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and find an old item in their house to hack and turn into something else to be reused instead. Our students got creative and thought about what else they might be able to reuse around their house, to help get in the spirit for the hack!

Taking part in the Hacking Challenge involved learning more about Responsible Consumption and Production, and how students had to consider:

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's NAE-MIT Hacking Challenge our NAE-MIT students rose to the challenge, learning about sustainable living and using their ingenuity and creativity to hack an old household item into something new! We received a huge number of submissions and would like to congratulation our winners who were chosen based on an amalgamation of: Student survey, Quality of their answer to the 3 'Hacking Questions', VA & DT teachers vote, and ingenuity and creativity.

Year 3 Henri made a nightlight from a shoebox and other household objects

Year 3 William made a watering can and scoop from plastic bottles

Year 6 Sophie-Jaya made a multi-use clipboard from boxes and a cardboard tube

Year 7 Elif made an ornament out of plastic container

Year 7 Oscar made a RC car from Altoid tins

Year 7 Mia made an artists travel bag out of cardboard

Year 8 Muhammed made a working cardboard ATM from old boxes, 2 batteries, 2 magnets, a motor and some crocodile clips

Year 8 Oscar made cars from bottle top tins and cardboard.
