THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE CAREER-RELATED PROGRAMME (IBCP)

BIS Houston’s International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) expertly prepares our students for career-focused higher education courses and the world of work. Our young people work across three key areas – IB subjects, a core programme, and pre-professional study – which broadens their educational knowledge and challenges them to apply their skills in real-world contexts.

OUR OUTSTANDING IBCP SCHOOL IN HOUSTON, TEXAS

The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) at BIS Houston is available to students in their last two years of High School (Years 12 and 13).

The IBCP is a two-year course that equips our students with a breadth of transferable 21st century skills. Alongside several core IB Diploma Programme elements, the IBCP enables our students to work towards potential career destinations, including those in either hospitality or business and sustainability.

IBCP SUBJECT CHOICES

At BIS Houston, International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) students take between three and five subjects, which they choose from six IBCP subject groups. These groups are: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts.

Subjects are taken at either a standard or higher level, and students can choose to take exams at the end of High School. Universities may award college credits based on exam outcomes.

THE IBCP CORE PROGRAMME

Alongside their specialist subjects, students at our IBCP school in Houston complete a core programme.

The programme includes:

Personal and professional development: Students develop transferable skills relevant to the workplace, which can be applied in a range of situations.
Service learning: Students take part in community service activities related to topics they have previously studied, using their skills, understanding, and values to make a difference.
A reflective project: Students identify, analyse, critically discuss, and evaluate an ethical issue.
Language development: Students improve their proficiency in a language other than their native tongue.

pre-professional study areas

The third area of our International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme in Houston, Texas, is pre-professional study.

Students choose from one of four set areas, based on their career goals. These dual-credit modules are delivered in partnership with top universities, helping our students create a pathway to success.

We’ll pause midday to enjoy our lunch – choosing from a selection of diverse cuisine in the Boma or from a smoothie and snack in the coffee shop. Unwinding, we can catch up with friends, play sports, or tinker with our own robotics, as we leisurely explore what makes us happy.

RESETTING, REFUELING

APPLYING OUR SKILLS AND TALENTS

We give back to our communities, whether it’s by organising blood drives, hosting the Head of UNICEF USA, or fundraising for our international trip to Tanzania. Through ‘creativity, activity, and service’, we use our skills and talents to be a driving force for good – in our school, in Houston, and beyond.
