Headteacher's Coffee Morning
‘Assessment and feedback’ was the main theme of our first Headteachers’ Coffee Morning of this academic year, and it was great to see such a strong turn out from parents. Our newly appointed Curriculum and Assessment Leaders (CALs) shared about how we assess the children from F1 up to Year 6, and how these processes interlink with each other. We also shared the Primary Priorities for this year, and information about the developments which took place over the summer break.

The IPC at BIS Capturing Curiosity and Celebrating Learning
Hopefully, you will have noticed this year that our creative teachers have really increased the amount, and size, of the opportunities for our parent community to become involved in their child's learning experience through the IPC. Both the Entry and Exit Points are fundamental steps in the IPC learning journey to encourage, support and celebrate your child's History, Geography and International learning. To learn more about what they are, what they aim to do and why is it so important for you to attend read our latest blog written by our IPC leaders.
Community Service Update:
Binh An Development Centre
(Friends for Street Children)
Earlier this week, we were delighted to purchase stationary for 250x children from the Binh An Development Centre in District 8. Managed by Friends for Street Children, Binh An is one of three shelters with whom BIS has engaged for the past seven years, having developed a close collaborative relationship. Not only does the school offer free education to disadvantaged children who are unable to access government education, but they also provide food and support to their families.
We would like to thank the Secondary Campus Vietnamese families whose generous donation contributed to most of the cost for:
- 1500 notebooks
- 1500 pens
- 1250 pencils
- 250 boards together with markers
- 250 sets of rulers
- 250 erasers
We are grateful for the kindness of our BIS community and for their continuing support of our local community partners.

Sports Update
Football
What a week for sport! All our Junior campus age groups got the chance to play in a football match, with nearly 100 children participating across the week. We had our first SISAC football City championships this week for the U9s, look out for next week's newsletter with a rundown of the results from the U11 SISAC City championships.
U9 V ISHCMC
On Monday, the U9 Boys and Girls played ISCHMC on home turf. We have over 30 children playing, with 6 teams getting their chance for a full game. For some children it was their first ever match! The PE team is so proud of all that attended and a big thankyou to the crowd! The two girls' teams were evenly matched against their opposition, they showed an excellent understanding of formation, and they are beginning to discuss tactics as a team. We ended up with one win and one loss, which is a fantastic achievement. Well done girls! The two boys' teams were equally impressive, facing a large and physical ISHMC squad. Some superb leadership and decision making from the players allowed them to fight back into the game from an early deficit. The whole team showed wonderful maturity and resilience to finish the afternoon with one win and one loss.

U11 v ISHCMC
Applying “High press” right after the kick-off paid off to BIS Team A boys against arch-rival ISHCMC, opening a goal in the 2nd minute and finished the first half with a 3-nil score. The visiting team bounced back in the second half and scored a goal coming from a crossed pass, but the home team held on and finished the match with a 3-1 victory. This is the fourth and last friendly fixtures for the team with much anticipation for the coming City Championship next week.
Under 11 A and B girls matches vs ISHCMC under U11
Last night saw both our A and B team face off against a much improved ISHCMC side. The girls fought very hard in this match even overcoming the rainy weather! In the A team game, the girls absolutely dominated the game, making 5 or 6 really good chances but unfortunately not being able to convert into a goal. In almost the last kick of the game ISHCMC managed to squeeze one between our goalie and the upright! Back luck A team. The B team girls game mirrored the A team but with it being a much more even affair. With chances for both sides and Addison in goal having to make a few key saves, the game was deadlocked at 0 - 0. Until a mistake at the back for BIS cost us a goal!
So… Advantage then to ISHCMC after this friendly match, but BIS still have it all to play for in the City Championships next week.
The B teams had a gripping encounter between two strong teams from BIS and ISHCMC. The challenging conditions didn't stop the quality of play in a brilliant and close game with the final score 3-2 to ISHCMC. The C and D teams came away with a draw and win, which really shows the depth of our talent. Over 40 boys played football, and all showed determination and fantastic sportsmanship, no matter what the final score.

U9 SISAC Championship
What a fantastic day for our U9 footballers at the SISAC City championships, held at ISHCMC. The children really had the chance to showcase all that they had learnt, and they did us proud! The girls managed to make it through to the final and just lost out to ISHCMC, having drawn with them in the earlier games.
Here are their scores:
The boys had a similar story, with the group matches going in their favour with Nattapat and Joseph being the top scorers, unfortunately, they just missed out to ISHCMC in the final as well.

Remembrance Day
The Royal British Legion created the Poppy Appeal to help those returning from the First World War. A Century on from that conflict, they are still helping today’s Service men and women, veterans and their families, whether coping with bereavement, living with a disability, or finding employment. Without your help, none of this would be possible.
Please join us in showing that we remember on the 11th of November by purchasing a poppy or donating to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
RBL Poppies are available at each Reception from Monday 7th November until the end of the month.
Digital Citizenship Workshop
A follow up reminder from last week of our upcoming BIS HCMC Parent Partnership Series workshop, the Digital Citizenship coffee morning next Wednesday, the 9th of November. This workshop will focus on how you can do your bit to help your child stay safe online whilst at home, while also reinforcing the importance of having a healthy balance in life, away from a screen. I would urge you all, even if you only make it to one workshop over the year, to make this a priority. Already more than 100 parents have signed up, but we hope to reach even more of you with such an important message. The coffee morning will be held in the Gym at the Junior Campus, starting at 8:30am to make it easier for our EYIC parents after drop off. To help with logistics on the day, can you please register here for attendance. You only need to complete one form per family.
Thank you enormously for your support of our Parent Partnership workshops and I look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday.

And Finally…
Next week, we look forward to welcoming a team of British School Overseas inspectors to BIS, HCMC. The purpose of this inspection is to validate the judgements that we, as a school, have made about ourselves, and suggest areas where the school could improve further. They will spend three days on all three campuses and look into the different areas that make a school excellent.
I hope you can enjoy a relaxing weekend,
Dee Grimshaw,
Headteacher of Junior Campus
