Another exciting week of football here for the BIS Junior campus! Read below to see how they all got on.
With 4 hours of running, jumping and throwing for their Sports Day that morning, Mr.G was expecting our BIS boys to be dragging their heels for this game. But as soon as the ref’s whistle started the game, there was no stopping them! The poor EIS boys didn’t know what hit them, as we attacked wave after wave down both flanks, whipping in crosses, and trying pot shots from outside the goalkeeper’s area. Determined dribbling and slick passing was used every time BIS had possession of the ball, and it was from one of these moves that finally unlocked the EIS defence and created the chance for Jack Champion to fire home the opening goal inside the near post. Three minutes later we were two goals ahead, as Jake Harper’s in-swinging corner was batting into his own net by the EIS goal keeper, as Bay Ali was ready to pounce on the loose ball. And with a few minutes to go before half time, the EIS defence half cleared another BIS attack, and Jake took one touch before hitting a screamer past the keeper from 15m. out.
The second half continued in similar vein as our subs Cosme, Hai and Lucas applied more attacking flair, resulting in a panicked EIS defence scrambling the ball only as far as Chao Ying Liao who poke the ball over the line, triggering wild celebrations from the on-looking Secondary students. Half way through the second half, it took a mesmerising solo dribble past three EIS defenders to see Jack seal his brace of goals. A huge recognition should also be made to JiSung Paik, Cedric DeGeer, and Alex Segura for an outstanding performance in defence, and completely stopping the EIS attack from barely any shots, and once again keeping a clean sheet for BIS. Final score: BIS 5-0 EIS
There was high excitement from our Year 5 girls team as they bounded onto the football field for their second fixture of the term against EIS. The ever dependable Tu Anh Thai was between the posts, and ably protected in defence by Bich Ngoc Vo and Erica Ng. Midfield saw the attacking speed of Myla Norriss, the calm composure on the ball of JuWon Lee, and the tackling and dribbling skills of Anabelle Jorgensen. The strikers consisted of Mouky Inthalacsa and Hanh Nguyen who constantly caused a nuisance for the EIS defence. The game itself ebbed and flowed from end to end as neither team could create a clear cut chance in front of goal. EIS did hit the crossbar, and BIS did have two of their shots scrambled off the EIS goal-line. Honours even at half time, and the BIS team introduced more player in the form of Michu Nguyen and Chloe Tseng in defence, and fresh pairs of legs in midfield with the introduction of Leonie Ngo. EIS has one very good player, but where ever she tried to break through the BIS team, we always had well prepared, determined girls to tackle and dispossess the opposition. As the EIS team started to tire, our BIS girls became more entrenched in the visitors half of the field, and with 5 minutes to go, after another goal mouth scramble, Anabelle was on hand to steer the ball past the despairing dive of the goal keeper and ignite wild celebrations from the Secondary student supporters. A great and deserving result for a very determined bunch of girls. Stars for the future. Final score: BIS 1-0 EIS
In the fixture on Wednesday the mighty BIS team were again victorious! With a deserved goal coming just before half time, and two in the second half to comfortably beat EIS. Goals coming from Ethan and two from Tai. The boys defended extremely well to keep another clean sheet in this match and looked dangerous every time they went forwards. Final score: BIS 3-0 EIS
Next week we will have an interschool match with A team Vs B team!
