It's the summer holidays!
One of the rotational activities taking place during our period 9 slot in the final week of term at the Secondary Campus has been the Virtual Escape Room. Designed to test students’ critical thinking, logic, problem-solving, and collaborative skills, this really has been a challenge. Mr Dave Knaggs, Head of Computing, and Mr Daniel Gamwell, the Head of Theory of Knowledge, created this activity, and will tell us more:
“The escape room takes students on a virtual tour of the BIS Secondary Campus. They are tasked with finding out who kidnapped Mr Mincher - someone is hiding him away as they seek to prevent the final school assembly from taking place. The students work their way through a number of different departments in the school, and are faced with puzzles, riddles or hidden codes in each place which they need to decipher and solve in order to advance.
The critical thinking skills involved are truly challenging, and it’s been really impressive to see students stepping up and getting so completely engaged in the project. But it hasn’t just been about competition and problem solving; an added bonus is that we’ve seen that so many of our students have shown exceptional intellectual curiosity, team-working, communication and the ability to think outside of the box. It’s been a rewarding process, and we’re delighted that the students are able to be so energised and enthusiastic about it.”

A whole world of possibilities awaits our graduating class of 2023. With 385 university offers so far, and many more still to come from Korea, Australia and Singapore, their remarkable IBDP achievements have opened pathways to some of the best universities and specialist institutions across the globe.
Last week two of our students, JaeYeon and Caitlin, joined over 100 NAE student delegates from around the world at the NAE-UNICEF Student Summit in New York City. This was an extraordinary opportunity for them to develop their leadership and advocacy skills and collaborate with like-minded students to cultivate their social purpose through the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
