I am sure we can all testify that this year has been a very strange year. In some ways a very different and frustrating year, as we didn’t get the chance to compete as we would have wished in the sports that we love.
In other ways a year very much the same as usual, as students' attitude and performances proved on and off the court and pitch. The people at this year’s BIS Sports Awards were the lucky ones though. This year they had the chance to compete, in one form or another, in the sport of their choice. And in that sport, they certainly did excel!
Due to the school closures and ongoing situation with Covid 19, other people were not so lucky to pull on the BIS jersey. For those unlucky sports stars that couldn’t play this year, they may have missed the chance to compete against other schools, or participate in elite level competitions to test their skills, tactics and determination against the best opposition out there. However, for all of the opportunities taken away from them this year, I am positive that they will still be able to take away a sense of technical knowledge, tactical understanding and decision making in their sport.
Working alongside their excellent coaches at the school, they will still be able to take away a tangible use of ethics and sportsmanship through the ethos of playing sport under the BIS name. By instilling and using all of these approaches adopted by coaches and fellow players, they will still be playing sport at the top of their game for a lifetime to come.
