Youth Cricket Comes to Ho Chi Minh On Saturday 23rd November, the first ever youth cricket tournament was hosted by the Saigon Cricket Association, where 2 schools, BIS and AIS, participated.

On Saturday 23rd November, the first ever youth cricket tournament was held by the Saigon Cricket Association, where 2 schools, British International School Ho Chi Minh City and Australian International School Ho Chi Minh City, participated. There were four teams altogether; the BIS Hurricanes, the BIS Chargers, AIS and The Barbarians, (a mixture of students from both AIS and BIS). The tournament was 6 a side with 5 overs to an innings.

In the first game, the Hurricanes played against AIS and Nathan started strongly by bowling the feared AIS star player out for a duck. He swiftly followed this up with another wicket with his next ball. In reply, Cooper was out to an amazing delivery in the first over. However, George and Ved batted for an amazing partnership with plenty of big hits that led the Hurricanes to victory.

In the second game, the BIS Chargers took on the Barbarians team. In another close game, Advait helped the Chargers to claim victory with some big hitting in the middle overs.

The next game was the big one – the BIS derby game. There were more boundaries in this game which was narrowly won by the Chargers. Mackenzie hit the winning runs in the final over.

In the final 3 games of the tournament, AIS and the Barbarians both won a match and the Chargers completed their dominance by beating AIS. In the end, it came down to a 3-way tie for second with the BIS Chargers becoming champions with 3 wins out of 3.

The Dwivedi brothers, Raghav and Rishi, bowled beautifully throughout the day and made it very difficult for the batsmen to score runs. George took an outstanding catch in the deep and Pransh, Faraz and all scored Rentaro important runs for their teams.

After all of our practise sessions, we were really happy to finally play in a competition against another school. We learnt so many new skills and tactics and were able to use them in real games. A big thank you to all the scorers and umpires who participated and to all the teachers and parents who came to watch. Overall, it was a very enjoyable day and we are all looking forward to the next one.
