Applications Open for 2025-2026
Year 9 student Matthew Grimshaw provides the match highlights from the U14 Boys B game vs EIS.
The first half left us 2-0 down. In that half we went in confident but wary as we had never played this team before. Immediately we observed that their star player and perhaps most pivotal when attacking was Fritz. We then made an effort to close him down as fast as possible but he was just too quick and skillful with the ball. The second half saw them get another but us get 2 goals, leaving the scoreline at 3-2 to the opposition. Hopes were high as we prepared for a comeback but our efforts were halted when they got a quick 3 more back, leaving the scoreline at a finishing 5-2
The thing we need to improve on the most would probably be our fluidity of passing. For us, it was a bit stop-start and that was where we lost the ball. It is also important for us to work on our communication as many a times we passed the ball to empty space.
Key players: There were 2 players on our side who stood out the most. The first was Steve Tran. He played an aggressive CDM role and was a force to be reckoned with in the back. Although he was a little shorter than the rest of the Year 9’s on our team, he challenged balls in the air and won the majority of the time. He would then either drive the ball up or float in a high lob. He was overall instrumental in starting counter-attacks. Khoa Tran was also an important player. He was our goalkeeper and although he let in a few, the saves he did make were incredible. Then with a strong arm, he would hurl the ball out to the halfway line where we would mount an attack.
