The SISAC City Championships is an inter-city competition for schools in Ho Chi Minh City bringing together the best young sporting superstars. Over the past 2 weeks our girls and boys basketball teams have been demonstrating their hard work and determination which for our U14 A boys basketball team certainly paid off as they successfully became the 2018 City Champions! Let's find out the highlights from each of the matches:
Hyun Soo Jung provides the highlights from the 2018 City Championships:
Nervous yet excited the U14 A boys went into the tournament with much confidence and determination to bring back the trophy to BIS. We were placed in the B group with 2 strong candidates SSIS and AMIS. The first hour we watched and studied whilst SSIS and AMIS were on court. The first group games for the boys was against AMIS, dominating the whole game with high tempo we won 45-32. Right after we were up against SSIS, despite being tired we were able to give SSIS a challenge but ended up losing 30-32. However due to point difference we moved up to the semi-finals against AIS. We played well the first half but struggled in between. Although struggling, BIS ran away with the win 40-42.
We were in the finals against ISHCMC! The boys took a rest to prepare for the finals, knowing that we had lost against ISHCMC in the regular season. However we were confident in ourselves that we could bring back the trophy. Since the start of the finals we were able to keep a high tempo and tight defence keeping ISHCMC scoreless in the first few minutes but ISHCMC did fight back and attempted to challenge us. Thankfully it was not enough to beat the U14 BIS boys. With much joy we placed first defeating ISHCMC 29-40 and were satisfied to finally bring back first place. A mention goes out to the top scorers Hyun Soo jung (11.75 ppg), Khoa Tran (11.25 ppg), Ron Liu (5.25 ppg) and Mac Pham (5 ppg).

Let’s go team #BISHCMC pic.twitter.com/j9KG84KHWv
The first game we played was against ISHCMC and we played well because we varied our tactics. If it didn't work out our team would always find a way around it and I think that's why we won the game against ISHCMC placing 6 points on top of them.
Our second game we played well as a team but I think to win the city champs next year we need to stop giving away fouls and we need to perfect our person-to-person defence. I do think that we did very well against a strong team like EIS because they were fast and driving to the basket.
We played extremely well against BVIS. It was very competitive but we came back and got the win at 14 to us and 7 to them. We played effectively and we held our defence very well man to man.
The final and last game for BIS was incredible even though we were tired and exhausted from the other games. We played incredibly well driving to the basket and and we called the right plays at the right time placing us unfortunately 3rd place but we were still on the leaderboard and I think we were all happy and sad at the same time knowing that it was over.
We could only manage 5th place today but we finished on a high beating AIS 25-17. This team have worked so hard and we’re still proud #BISHCMC pic.twitter.com/K2VTnAPch1

Last tuesday the U14 girls basketball A team girls left to AMIS to compete in the City champs. On the way there, the girls were all excited but nervous at the same time. Our first match was against CIS, it was a very tough game and every individual did extremely well, but unfortunately we did not win because the shooting in this game was a little off. The girls were sad but did not let this affect their mood in the next game. We had an hour break before our next game which gave us more time to rest and get more energy. When it was time for us to play SSIS, we focused and zoned into the game still trying to get our first win of the tournament however the game went back and forth with BIS and SSIS exchanging baskets almost every possession possible, and the last few minutes of the game was the most intense because we were starting to catch up to them but SSIS did not let their guard down and ending up winning. This meant that our next game would decide whether we would place 5th or 6th. In our last game, against AIS we started off very strong and continued to do so throughout the match therefore giving us our first win of the tournament which placed us 5th. Nonetheless the girls performed phenomenally and everyone gave in their best.
We finish on a high and finally get a win. 14-4 against AMIS. It might be 7th place but these girls have shown so much fighting spirit and potential for the future. Well done! #bishcmc pic.twitter.com/fTJNxF6Cqp

Haley Nguyen provides the match highlights:
Last Thursday the U14 B girls team left for their SISAC basketball tournament. The girls came to the city champs with high energy and were ready to face their competitors and determined to win. We were very nervous as we were starting our first match against TAS but played the game with a lot of enthusiasm. However, we were not able to beat them, therefore the score was 14-6 to TAS.
After that match, we all took a 45 minute rest to recover for the next 3 consecutive matches. EIS was our next competition. In our first half they were winning by 6-0 which did not affect our play in the second half but unfortunately, we were not able to have a win. Right after, we went up against RISS, who were one of the strongest teams there and ended up being the overall champions. Although we knew that they were a powerful team, we did not let that discourage us with a steady first half leading by one point which boosted our motivation as we knew they were a tough team to beat. Sadly, they overturned it leading by 9 points and the final score being 11-2. Despite this, Ms Gallagher and Mr Tuan were still proud of our game against RISS because our performance had improved drastically from our first match. Ms Gallagher said to us, “let’s end with a high” and using those words we came into our next match with our heads held high and beat our opponents, AMIS, with the score of 14-4. As a result, we ended up coming 7th out of 8 teams. This wasn't the outcome we wanted but were still happy with the effort and hard work we put into all of our matches.
