It's the summer holidays!
These first few weeks have been really exciting and busy times in the Curve: our new library and learning space at BIS HCMC, Secondary Campus. We have been welcoming students and teachers en masse since the first day of term all keen to discover and experiment with the Curve’s new areas and facilities.
September is international ‘Read a New Book Month’ and we are working hard to encourage all students to either pick up and read a book that they might normally overlook, or perhaps finally read that book that they’ve always wanted to read, but just haven’t got round to doing so.
We have so many great books in our collection, both new and old, fiction and non-fiction, physical and digital, all waiting to be checked out by our students throughout September. Brand new recommended titles will be out on prominent display in the Curve for students to look over throughout ‘Read a new book month’, and our teaching staff are currently also creating audio readings and recommendations of their favourite books in our collection for all students, and parents, to listen to and choose their new book from - one recommendation for each day of September.
Our eBook collection is also a great place to search for new reading material with nearly 500 titles accessible to all our students by downloading the Destiny Discovery app.
Now you are able to Search the collection either by title or key word.If you click on the + sign on the top right of your screen, you can select format: either book, eBook, or audio book.
Parents can support our ‘Read a New Book Month’ initiatives simply by reminding sons and daughters to keep popping into the Curve to browse the ‘new book’ shelves, or by accessing and discussing our teacher book recommendations with your sons and daughters to help them search for their September new reading experience.
Happy September reading to all.
Anita Curley, Teacher Librarian, Secondary Campus
At BIS HCMC we deliver in school a comprehensive wellbeing curriculum to provide our students with the tools, resources and support to balance their social, physical, emotional and mental health. As part of this, we also look at preventative measures to ensure the safety of our students beyond BIS and equip them with knowledge and skills for both today and their future success in the wider world.
This term we were extremely fortunate to welcome back into school experts from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City’s Regional Security Office (RSO) to discuss more on the topic of drugs and substance abuse with some of our students and parents.
