Duke of Edinburgh International Award 2018
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is the world's leading youth achievement award equipping young people for life and work. This award takes a huge amount of time and dedication to achieve therefore our sincere congratulations go out this week to the 19 Year 11 students who were awarded their Bronze level and the 9 Year 13 students who were awarded the highest level of Gold.

This award takes a huge amount of time and dedication to achieve therefore our sincere congratulations go out this week to the 19 Year 11 students who were awarded their Bronze level and the 9 Year 13 students who were awarded the highest level of Gold.
Throughout the International Award programme participants can either develop existing interests or try something new. The Award is not a competition; it is based on personal improvement and achievement. Once participants have set their goals, striven to achieve them and shown improvement, they will achieve their Award.
There are 4 core elements of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award:
- Service - encourages our students to volunteer their time to and understand the benefits of community service.
- Skills - promotes the development of personal interests as well as practical and social skills.
- Physical Recreation - actively encouraging students to participate in physical activities to improve their health, fitness and wellbeing.
- Adventurous Journey - encourages a sense of adventure and builds teamworking skills. In small groups, students train for and head on an expedition to different areas around Vietnam with a defined purpose in an unfamiliar environment.
Bronze Award
Congratulations to our 19 Year 11 students who this week have completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at Bronze level. This requires a total of 52 hours of their regular skill, service and physical activities. They also completed their two-day trekking and camping expedition to Lang Bian mountain in Dalat during Year 10. So congratulations on a fantastic achievement!
Gold Award
Nine of our Year 13 students have successfully completed their Gold Award. This requires a total of 180 hours of their regular activities and a four-day trekking, cycling and camping expedition to Bidoup Mountain. They have also completed their own personal Residential Project, living away from home for a week and working on projects ranging from environmental clean-up in Cambodia to work experience in Spain. To highlight what an outstanding and prestigious achievement this is, young people who achieve the Gold Award in the UK would be invited to St James’s Palace in London for an award ceremony.
