The participation rate this year was superb with over 60 entries from all age ranges across the Secondary campus. The theme of “Where I Live” led to some interesting interpretations which meant that the entries were incredibly varied in their nature.
The most impressive aspect of the competition was the quality of images produced, all explained terrifically in their geographical contexts. Congratulations have to go out to all participants who each receive a house point for their efforts. This made judging this year’s contest incredibly challenging, and via a number of difficult decisions, the judges somehow managed to pick the 3rd, 2nd and 1st place entries for both the upper and lower schools:
1st Place - LoLo Pham 8I
This boy is sitting underneath a bridge, looking down at the construction happening below him. This represents how the government doesn’t educate the people in the subject of basic safety rules. If they did, there wouldn’t be a chance of anyone daring to climb out under a bridge like that, creating a risk for themselves.
2nd Place - Rosie Battersby 8C
As I have lived the majority of my life in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City is my home. Even though there are worries concerning pollution, it can create beautiful sunsets on hazy days, like you see in the picture. This stunning view is what I see before I go to bed each night.
3rd Place - Vivian Viehweg 8V
This photo was taken because Ho Chi Minh City is a very welcoming city. The nice feeling that it offers fits this picture. This fits the theme because the shoes represent the welcoming feeling Ho Chi Minh offers. Also, in the background, the word Vietnam stands out, and that's “where I live”.
1st Place - Paul Tran 13B
Sai Gon named Far Eastern Pearl where I live has a 24-hour culture. Lights from plenty of multi storeyed buildings looks like millions of bright stars bouncing against the sky at night. I could not help admiring this beauty but sometimes I wonder how much fossil fuel we have burned. And I am sure, the answer to this question will make me worried.
2nd Place - Nathaniel Vo 13H
3rd Place - Minh Thu Nguyen 12A
Title of the photograph: On track; Location: Railroad in Ward 8, District Phu Nhuan, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. 6:10. My special alarm clock. I don't have to open my eyes to know it is the time to wake up.
Well done to the winners Lo Lo Pham and Paul Tran who will now be entered into the Nord Anglia Education Young Photographer of the Year competition.
