Word Mania Competition 2017
At TX we love to be challenged so when LiteracyPlanet.com set us the challenge of participating in the Word Mania 2017 word building competition…...of course our children obliged! The school aide memoire featured highly in the children’s efforts, with perseverance, reflection and learning together being important factors of their performance!

Year One and Year Two entered Word Mania 2017; a word building competition involving an online game where players build as many words as possible using 15 letter tiles in only three minutes. They competed against other international schools from across South East Asia that are part of the FOBISIA group.
The aim of the game was to build as many words as they could. As a Key Stage, Year One and Year Two managed to make an amazing 21,754 words in only two weeks of playing in school and at home!
In class, the children worked together to help each other make as many words as they could. Some children started by making a short, root word and then added additional letters to create longer words. For example, ‘s-h-o-p’ was then quickly made in to ‘shop-s’ and ‘shop-p-i-n-g’. Other children tried a systematic approach. They tried to find as many words starting with a specific letter, before moving on to make words beginning with a different letter. It was lovely to see the children trying different strategies, working together with their friends and reflecting on their scores. The challenge continued at home with many of the children using the Word Mania app.
Well done to Year One who achieved 1st position in their age category!
