Formula 1 Racing in Schools

F1 in schools 02 BIS

Steve Ko, Ben Kim, Haeon Yoon and Rui Lim from Year 13, who together make up Team Doppler Racing, have returned from their visit to Austin, Texas for the F1 in Schools, World Final where they represented both Vietnam and BIS, HCMC.

Congratulations to our team, and Mr Jon Ball, our Design Technology teacher who runs the F1 club and travelled to the event with the team, on their second place finish in the Autodesk Fusion Challenge. The challenge involved designing the F1 car of the future and they were delighted to receive the prize of a 3D printer and two computer space mice for the school.

While attending the event, Steve Ko was also accepted into the Williams F1 Randstad Engineering Academy. This is a truly major achievement. Steve was selected as one of 24 students, based on his initial written application, and was invited to attend a two hour assessment where he performed a number of team based activities. From this Steve was one of only 9 students who were chosen for the class of 2016. He will be mentored by one of the Williams F1 engineers and the course will run alongside his university degree.

Year 9, 10 & 11 Being Mindful

Mindfulness at British International School 2

In response to student feedback last year, Year 11 were introduced to the concept of Mindfulness by Sarah and Hang who together run Saigon Om, a company which delivers a host of different types of health-based events, including retreats in Mui Ne. Sarah and Hang came to BIS to demonstrate to the pupils some methods that can be adopted to deal with stress, unhappiness and anger. The session was clearly a huge success with all pupils actively taking part and listening carefully to the advice on offer.

Hang and Sarah will be delivering two sessions to pupils in Years 9, 10, and 11 over the next few weeks.

School Calendar for Next Academic Year

BIS HCMC Term Dates 20172018

The school calendar for the 2017-18 academic year has been published on the school website. As a reminder students are expected to attend school on each school day unless they are ill. Any requests for absence outside of the school holidays should be requested from your child’s Head of Year by sending an e-mail stating the dates required and the reasons for extra days away from school. It is particularly important that students from Year 10, 11, 12 & 13 are only absent in exceptional circumstances, and not for holiday purposes.

I wish you and your family a wonderful weekend.
