We held a Headteacher’s Information Evening this week and I was delighted to see so many parents. Discussion centred around the key features of the IB and IGCSE curriculum. All parents have received the presentation by email. The many and varied ideas that we generated together during the evening and in the our following correspondence have been particularly useful. The information evening will be held once each term and focuses on areas of interest to parents. If you have any suggestions around topics of interest then please do contact me.
On Monday, the Head Prefect Team, Haeon Yoon, Steven Vo, Saanya Mishra, & Steve Ko, had an opportunity to present an assembly on Student Led Extra Curricular Activities (ECA’s) in AP2. Through interviewing a few established ECAs in the school such as Model United Nations, Dumbledore’s Army, Project Impact and Atramento, they were able to convey students' passion for a wide range of extra curricular interests. Common to each of these ECAs was the fact that the activity had been suggested, planned and organized under student leadership.
Overall, it was a great chance for the team to share their thoughts on leadership, and we hope that not only will these student initiatives continue to develop in the future, but new student led activities will also emerge during the next academic year.
All of our assemblies begin and end with student musical performances, this week Avinie Pham from Year 10 welcomed us with an excellent rendition of ‘Misty’ by Erroll Garner.
During last week’s Environmental Awareness Week, the Year 7 students were keeping a close eye on their teachers to see who was setting a good environmental example. Each group nominated a teacher and provided reasoning for their choice including always having the blinds open and lights off, using recycled paper wherever possible, having the room at a normal temperature and switching the interactive board off when it is not being used. The most environmentally conscious teachers were voted as: Mr Fortune (7C), Mr Whiteley (7B), Mr Roberts (7B), Mrs Husband (7H), Ms Fish (7S), Mr Lewis (7N), Mrs Deleporte (7V) and Mr O’Neill (7I). Each teacher was rewarded with recognition amongst the rest of the staff by Mr Durrant and received a bar of ethically produced Marou chocolate. Well done again to Year 7 for their efforts in raising environmental awareness and setting a good example to the rest of the school.

Last weekend BIS HCMC was delighted to host the Primary FOBISIA games. Please do take a look at the photos available here. Making full use of the Primary and Secondary facilities, as well as outside sport venues, meant that the Primary and Secondary PE Staff were all fully involved. A number of our Secondary students helped out on Friday and Saturday. Thank you to all those involved for an fantastic, well run event. A special mention from the PE department must go to Jacob Gleave, 10S, who went above and beyond all expectations, staying for an extra day and using his own initiative to help out when needed and going way beyond the role he was given.
This week BIS has welcomed comedy duo Wilkinson Ford into the Drama department. Nicola Wilkinson and Claire Ford are professional actors who have been touring Australia with their show The Kagools. We were delighted to have Nicola and Claire host drama workshops with our Year 10 and 12 students.
Congratulation to Celestine Koh, 10V, who was selected as the winner of the BIS Inaugural Concerto Competition. A concerto is a major work for a soloist with an orchestral accompaniment. We look forward to hearing Celestine and the orchestra later this term in an informal performance.
The PTG provide support for many of our Community Partners through fundraising events such as the Christmas BISzaar. This year they have very kindly supported Mai Am by buying two new computers for the shelter. This was greatly appreciated on Monday when students from Mai Am club presented the computers to the children. The PTG do an excellent job of supporting the school. We are very pleased to host a visit from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology on Monday 30 May at 3.30 in the 6th floor Theatre. KAIST is a very well respected Science university and there will be a public information session and discussions with interested students. The presentation will be made in Korean.
A reminder that If you are leaving at the end of the year, or just clearing out your house, now is your opportunity to sell your used items at the AP2 Flea Market to be held on Sunday 5 June from 9am to 12pm. Books, toys, small household goods, jewellery, clothing, shoes - bring it all! Tables cost VND150,000 and can be booked by e-mailing the PTG at bisptgap2@gmail.com.
Tickets are still available for the Dragonfly production of George’s Marvellous Medicine which BIS is sponsoring.The full performance will be at Saigon Outcast on the 28th and 29th May and 4th and 5th June. It is both a rare and fantastic opportunity to see live theatre in Ho Chi Minh City aimed at the whole family. Tickets are on sale at the Kepi shop (63, Thao Dien) and on ticketbox.vn.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 class of 2024, for their impressive IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) results. This incredible cohort of 155 students, our largest IGCSE class in the history of the school, have significantly surpassed UK and international averages and were awarded 97% of all grades at A*-C. An incredible 62% of all grades awarded were at A*-A.
A whole world of possibilities awaits our graduating class of 2023. With 385 university offers so far, and many more still to come from Korea, Australia and Singapore, their remarkable IBDP achievements have opened pathways to some of the best universities and specialist institutions across the globe.
