It was my pleasure to welcome Mr Tim Deyes, our new Principal, to his new post last week. Tim has spent this week meeting students and staff and becoming more acquainted with the three BIS campuses that he now leads. Here at AP2 it has been great to see Tim involved in so many aspects of day to day campus life including making several visits to join students in their lessons.
This week I start my update with an introduction from Tim.
My thanks to all parents who took the time to complete this year's parent satisfaction survey. Your feedback is important to us and we will now be using what you have said to inform our future planning. We were particularly pleased that 95% of parents said that they would recommend BIS to prospective parents. Please click here for our Principal's message in response to the survey findings.
Last term I discussed the Saigon Enterprise Challenge in the newsletter and focused on the teams who were busy promoting their businesses and selling their products at school, nationally and internationally. The competition has now reached its conclusion and we are delighted that BIS walked away with 3 of the 4 prizes - Best Presentation, Best Stall, and Overall Best Company.
Congratulations to our Year 12 students and their companies, May, Memento and DST (BIS). Their creativity and commitment to their company vision and their products has been impressive not to mention the competitive edge they developed in their teams. I am always pleased to see innovative opportunities provided for our students in which they can develop the entrepreneurial skills they will need for their futures. My thanks go to Ms O'Neill and the Business Studeies and Economics department for their hard work supporting our student teams and for hosting this city wide event.
Reading is key to your child’s future development, and this is a constant throughout their education. Until Thursday 19th May high quality books, which are not available in Vietnam, are available to order through our association with Baker Books. We also receive commission in the form of free books for the school libraries. Your orders have, in the past, added hundreds of books to our stock. We are very grateful for your help in this way.
On the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday this week we celebrated International Nurses Day with our AP2 nurse team, Nurse Love and Nurse Sharyn. The role of nurses globally contributes much to world health. At AP2 Nurse Love and Nurse Sharyn are an integral part of the welfare and pastoral team as well as tending to day-to-day medical complaints. Thank you for all your care when we are ill or injured, you do a fantastic job!
Our Year 12 students are currently applying to take on new leadership roles as subject ambassador.
The aim of this project is to:
This would be an ideal opportunity for Year 12 students who do not currently hold a leadership role on campus to use their passion for subject learning to support younger students. Applications for these posts close on Friday 20th May at 3pm.
If your son or daughter is in Year 12 please do encourage them to apply for this role.
Last Saturday, a group of our IGCSE and IB Music students enjoyed a rehearsal performance of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ opera at the Ho Chi Minh Opera House. A wonderful opportunity for the students to look behind the scenes into the world of professional musicians.
We were delighted with the progress made by both our Girls and Boys U14 Volleyball teams this year which culminated in a hard fought battle this week. Well done all!
A win for our Senior Girls Football team this week is detailed by the Captain of the team, Lhasa Pereyra Nguyen who also won Player of the match. Read an overview of the team’s march to victory here.
Finally, you will have received an invitation to join us for an evening information event on Monday 23rd May at 6:00pm in the AP2 Theatre. The purpose of these events is to present an area of interest requested by parents and to give an update of the recent developments at the AP2 Campus. This term’s meeting we will be explaining the key features of the IGCSE and IB.
This will also give you a good opportunity to meet our new Principal, Mr Tim Deyes.
The event is being held in the evening, rather than as a coffee morning, to provide an opportunity for working parents to come along too, I hope you can join us, I look forward to seeing you there.
I hope to see you at Parent Information Evening on Monday 23 May at 6pm, all are welcome. In the meantime I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Kind regards,
Carl Mincher
