In Year 6 we have been exploring new and exciting ways to extend our virtual learning platform.

Once a week, the class grab their passports, sun cream and water bottles, before flying off to a historical landmark on a different continent each and every Friday.

Last week, the students jetted off to visit the ancient and mysterious temple of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

We arrived early enough to catch the sunrise via Google Maps before taking a virtual tour of the temple and learning all about its rich history and construction.

Once we had analysed the royal engravings and religious artefacts, we travelled back in time and examined the history of the local people who lived in and around the temple over 2000 years ago.

We looked at village life, social customs, and were lucky enough to compare their lives with modern living.

As a final treat, before flying back to Hanoi, we boarded a virtual hot air balloon ride that floated high over the temple from 800ft above.

This Friday, we’ll be visiting the pyramids of Giza in Egypt to explore the most famed and feted structures, which have wowed spectators for centuries.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for the children to get their heads out of the classroom a little and explore new cultures and historical sites around the world.
