Where is “home” for you?
Newcastle Upon Tyne, England (not far from the Angel of the North)
What do you do in Abu Dhabi?
I'm the Year 1 Year Leader and class teacher at BIS Abu Dhabi.
What brought you to Abu Dhabi?
In search of year-long sunshine! Travel opportunities – opportunities to visit new places.
Tell us something that few people know about you:
I'm a little bit rusty, but I enjoyed learning Makaton and Sign Language while living in UK. I love diving, snorkelling and anything water related. I enjoy upcycling items to make new pieces of furniture. I lived in Qatar before moving to Abu Dhabi. I once got on the wrong aeroplane and ended up in Paris – take extra care now when boarding an aeroplane! I can also do a rubix cube.
What is your favourite thing about being a part of the BIS Abu Dhabi community?
The families; watching the children grow, getting to know families and finding out about cultures from around the world and incorporating this into my day-to-day teaching. I have learned to sing "Happy Birthday" in lots of different languages during my time here!
What do you enjoy most about living in Abu Dhabi?
The Sun! You can often find me at the beach at the weekend! Travel opportunities – making friends who live/are from different places and adding new holiday destinations to my list!
Anything else you would like to share?
I LOVE teaching Phonics and love singing with my class (although tone deaf!)

The end of the year is a time for reflection and celebration, as well as an opportunity to look ahead.
During the last weeks, we have celebrated students at the Sports Award Assembly, welcomed fathers sharing time with students in the Early Years team, enjoyed end-of-term showcases across many year groups, attended IB presentations, participated in a Science Fair hosted by the Science CCA, and watched the Dance Production, BISAD’s Got Talent Show and the Music Open Mic event, to name but a few.
Earlier in June, a group of our IB students jetted off to Iceland for an unforgettable adventure. Damian Toader from 12A shares his experience of this incredible trip, capturing the essence of Iceland's breathtaking landscapes and unique natural phenomena through his lens as the group's photographer.
