BIS ABU DHABI’S ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

HOW TO JOIN OUR INCLUSIVE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

The British International School (BIS) Abu Dhabi is open to children aged 3-18. We accept applications all year round and new students can start at any time.

We teach the English National Curriculum to students aged 3-16, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and BTEC International Level 3 Diploma to our 16-18 learners. In an environment where curiosity is encouraged, personal growth is nurtured, and academic outcomes are celebrated, students of all ages and backgrounds flourish.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS BY AGE

YOUR CHILD’S YEAR GROUP

Our students are placed in year groups based on their age, mirroring the UK system. This means children aged five (before 31st August of each academic year) join us in Year 1, children aged six join us in Year 2, and so on.

As an international school with children coming from a variety of backgrounds and education systems, there are times when we don’t place a child in the year group that corresponds to their age. We also look at each child’s educational history. This means we may invite them to sit an assessment to determine where they should be placed. We never place students in older year groups, however.

MEETING THE NEEDS OF YOUR CHILD

ASSESSMENT AND LANGUAGE SUPPORT

As part of our admissions process, every child sits an assessment. This ensures we're able meet individual learning needs and offer the right blend of challenge and support. Our assessments and interviews vary depending on the age of each child, but may include class observations and English speaking, writing, and cognitive ability tests.

All our lessons are taught in English, which is why it’s so important that your child is sufficiently fluent. Our expert English as an Additional Language (EAL) team are here for students who need extra support.
