On Saturday 14th March six BIS Abu Dhabi students went to Dubai College to compete in the ‘Middle East History Bee and Bowl’ competition, a history quiz version of a spelling bee. There were a number of International schools also competing from across the UAE.
Our students did very well in the bowl (team competition) competing against teams made up of mostly sixth formers, and even beating one school in a match involving two of our Year 7 students against Year 12! The students became more confident with the ‘toss-up’ buzzer question format as the tournament went on.
Our students were knocked out in the play offs by GEMS Dubai who had an advantage with many of the questions relating to US history.
In the individual competition the students also did well, with Jacob Kenning being particularly successful, finishing in the top 5. In fact he has now qualified for the ‘Asian championships’ in Thailand taking place in June. We hope Jacob will be able to go and represent BIS Abu Dhabi and possibly go onto the final ‘International History Olympiad’ in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA in July.
The students involved were:
Owen joined the BIS Abu Dhabi family in 2017, starting his journey in Year 7. After seven memorable years at the school, he has graduated with an impressive score of 43 out of a possible 45 points in the IB Diploma Programme. This outstanding achievement is a testament to his dedication and hard work.
Angelina joined the BIS Abu Dhabi family in 2018, starting her journey in Year 8. After four memorable years at the school, she has graduated with an impressive score of 39 out of a possible 45 points in the IB Diploma Programme. This outstanding achievement is a testament to her dedication and hard work.
Katalin joined the BIS Abu Dhabi family in 2021, starting her journey in Year 10. After three memorable years at the school, she has graduated with an impressive score of 39 out of a possible 45 points in the IB Diploma Programme. This outstanding achievement is a testament to her dedication and hard work.
Students studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme at The British International School Abu Dhabi once again performed significantly above the global average.
A total of 76 students at The British International School Abu Dhabi studied for IB exams this year. As well as achieving an outstanding pass rate, the students ’ average score was 33.4, exceeding the global average of 30.32.
