A Transformative Experience for St Andrews Educators

The conference offered St Andrews educators an opportunity to engage with peers, explore forward-thinking teaching strategies, and strengthen their approach to student learning.

“My biggest takeaway from the conference was utilizing the power of inclusion through AI development and its application in education. Networking with similar minded colleagues highlighted the NAE drive towards the importance of creating diverse learning environments where every student’s voice is valued. I learned how AI can be used effectively to personalize learning experiences, catering to individual needs while also fostering creativity and critical thinking. This will impact teaching by encouraging more inclusive and adaptive approaches, allowing teachers to use AI tools that empower students to take ownership of their learning and engage with new technologies in meaningful ways.”

Driving Innovation in Teaching and Learning

Nord Anglia Education places continuous professional development at the heart of its strategy, ensuring educators have the tools and knowledge to enhance student learning. The conference explored AI in education, neurodiversity, inclusive leadership, and other key topics shaping the future of teaching.

Key highlights from the event included:

  • Mr Paul Atkinson’s session on Social Impact, where he shared insights into St Andrews’ Social Impact work and the school’s recent Bronze Level NAE Social Impact Distinction.

  • Mr Keith Wilson and Mr Roo Stenning presented a session on the coming AI paradigm shift in education, exploring how AI will transform teaching and learning in the years to come.

  • Ms Catherine McCluskey chaired the Inclusion and SEND Job-A-Like Workshop, after being asked to step in at the last minute due to colleague unavailability

The event also focused on Nord Anglia’s research into metacognition—helping students develop an awareness of their learning processes to improve problem-solving and critical thinking.

“Through leadership discussions at the conference, our academic teams explored how to apply Nord Anglia’s latest research on metacognition," said Rob Walls, Head of Middle East Schools at Nord Anglia. "By embedding metacognitive strategies in the classroom, we help students develop the skills to become independent, self-directed learners. In offering a forward-thinking education, we are supporting skills development with our Nord Anglia educational framework centred around the continuous growth of the 6 Cs—ensuring our students evolve into critical, creative, committed, and curious learners, while collaborating compassionately both in and outside the classroom.”

Strengthening Our Global Community

For St Andrews educators, the conference wasn’t just about professional development—it was also a chance to collaborate with peers from around the world and contribute to Nord Anglia’s global education community.

“The conference strengthened my connection to the NAE community by allowing me to collaborate with regional Social Impact Leads and share best practices. It was motivating to reflect on STA’s progress which allowed us to support other schools navigate their own Social Impact journey and reinforced the importance of collaboration in driving lasting change."
