Head's Lines: A New Reign

QF
Head's Lines: A New Reign NewKing

As you will be aware, the death of Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom after 70 years of diligent and graceful service to the people of the UK and Commonwealth has been commemorated around the world.

Last Monday the final payment of respects were made to the British Monarch through the state funeral held at Westminster Abbey in London. Many of our teaching staff have their homes and families in the UK and we were all thoughtful of what was occurring in London by sharing in this last commemoration through the live evening coverage.

We will all look forward to the reign of King Charles III who, like his mother the Queen, has already shown he will be someone who will serve the people of the UK and the Commonwealth in all that he undertakes.

High School Careers and Higher Education Services

There has already been an enormous amount of activity organised by our dedicated team of teachers who have experience and understanding of all the possible routes our High School students may wish to take upon graduation. This team's support happens right throughout High School with a huge choice of courses and options available as our students move through each of the three key stages.

The High School Careers and Higher Education (CAHE) expansion in 2021 has provided vast benefits to our students and community. The CAHE team has been able to improve, update, and organise broader systems and strategies to reach more High School students. The team has been able to spend more time with Year 13 students and now has more access to Year 12 students. CAHE has also been able to organise more in-person events at the High School. Although the pandemic made it difficult for most schools in Bangkok to host in-person events and representatives last year, STA was able to safely host a Thai University Fair, a UK Mini Fair, and other college/university/programme representatives during the year. Being one of the first schools in Bangkok to reopen for these kinds of events proved positive for our community, and showed other schools in Bangkok that it is very possible to ‘live with COVID”.

CAHE Events and Workshops

This year has been off to a great start with the CAHE team already hosting these in-person events:

  • University Parent Workshop

  • Year 13 Application Workshop

  • Two Year 13 Common App Workshops

  • Two Year 13 UCAS Application Workshops

  • University of California Application Workshop

  • Swiss Education Group on-site visit

  • Cesar Ritz Colleges Switzerland on-site visit

  • Glion Institute of Higher Learning on-site visit

And there’s so much more to come this term:

  • Greater Bangkok University Fair Field Trip (for Year 12 and 13 students who have registered)

  • Year 13 Essay Workshops

  • On-site visits from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Boston University, Hult International Business School, the University of Toronto, etc. - the list goes on and on.

  • Study in Hong Kong Workshop

  • Study in Australia Workshop

  • Many more events and visits are in the works, so stay tuned.

CAHE technology updates

The department has also improved the delivery of resources through new and improved technology and platforms:

  • Cialfo (college/university/programme research and application platform) for Year 12 and 13 students

  • Updated and improved CAHE website for students, parents, and STA faculty

  • College/University Information and Announcements Google Classroom (access for STA High School students only)

    • Student source for events, webinars, live sessions, scholarships, internships, summer programs, contests, dates, deadlines, etc.

PTG International Day

A huge thank you to our PTG and the country representatives for organising their part of the International Days at School. The Primary School International Day will take place on the last day of this half term Friday 7th October. It will be great to see so many children dressed in their national costumes keen to find out more about their friends and all the rich culture we have within our school. International Day activities will be a lovely way to end this very busy half term.

Parking in Soi 20

I kindly ask that parents take note of the restrictions regarding the Pridi Soi 20 entrance to the Primary School. If we do not stop parking and causing congestion in this Soi, there could be some very difficult consequences for our whole school. The school has been working closely over the last few years with the local BMA District office to ensure that the management of our school does not unduly affect the local residents who live around St Andrews. It would be a tremendous inconvenience to many in our community if the BMA ordered us to close this gate permanently.

Therefore we ask you to not park in Soi 20 or any of the sub-Sois off this road to minimise the disruption to community residents. The police are monitoring this issue and will regularly review the cars parked on these roads, locking wheels of unauthorised cars and issuing fines to the car owners.

The Soi 20 school entrance should only be used by students and parents using the school shuttle bus or by STA families who live within this neighbourhood.

For parents with enquiries, please contact support@standrews.ac.th. You can also call the Primary School directly at +66 2 381-2387-8 or the High School at +66 2 056-9555.
