Our counsellor shares a few links and her thoughts on what parents need to know about MOMO.
Momo has been around for the last 18 months and is not new. It was originally an app but that has been removed and it is now scary videos that are being distributed via WhatsApp, YouTube and online gaming (live streaming).
It is scary. Even I was sitting on the edge of my seat watching it, and for a 7-year-old? - yes, it would scare them. A simple tip is to turn off ‘auto play’ on YouTube and ensure that your contact details are hidden on WhatsApp. Make sure the ‘no fill’ option is ‘on’ within Fortnite and all settings within your Xbox and PlayStation are closed.
Guidance on MOMO:
National Online Safety: MOMO
Although MOMO is not nice, I agree with this article that the media have over-dramatised it. You should be aware that there are much worse things on YouTube than this: attacks, muggings, shootings and porn. Don’t spread the panic about Momo – get involved and supervise what your young children are watching, whatever it may be.

Are you a new student at St Andrews International School Bangkok looking to dip your toes into the world of swimming? Or perhaps you are a current student who has always wanted to improve your skills in the pool? Then there is no better time than now to join the STA Marlins Swimming Squad. The Marlins Recreational Group is our latest swimming programme, welcoming all beginners on Tuesdays after school.
At St Andrews Bangkok, we believe that every child has the potential to discover and develop a unique musical voice. Our Instrumental Programme offers students an extraordinary opportunity to explore and master a range of musical instruments, fostering a lifelong love for music and enhancing their cognitive and creative development.
What an exciting time this is for the Aquatics Department at St Andrews International School Bangkok. During the summer, as we basked in the glow of remarkable news of our swimming coach and athlete qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games, the result made it even better. The Olympics, an event that unites athletes from around the world in a celebration of sportsmanship and human spirit, has come particularly close to home for our community this year, inspiring students, staff, and parents alike.
