Art students demonstrate their creativity with beautiful illustrations for the Book Week Character Painting Competition
There is a definite buzz in the air at St Andrews International School Bangkok this week as we celebrate Book Week 2018. With a host of activities run by the English Department and of course the famous costume competition on Friday, Book Week offers us a chance to get creative. In celebration of Book Week, the Art Department ran a painting competition, where students were challenged to paint a scene or a character from a book. We were amazed by the entries, currently on display in the Atrium.
Congratulations to New in Year 11 on winning 1st prize, for her beautifully illustrated scene from Little Red Riding Hood. Khing in Year 8 won 2nd prize for her pop art inspired portrait of Hermione Granger. Pearie in Year 7 won 3rd prize for her impressive painting of Harry Potter’s owl, Hedwig. The Art Department would like to extend their thanks to all participants for all of the time and energy that has gone into making these fantastic works of art. Here are the entries and winners. (Work by Ritika, Sam, Emma, Nitnem, Trisha, Pin, Isabelle, Maki, Pearie, Prim, Ursha, Ton, New, Khing and Matthew)
This week our ‘Artist of the Week’ award goes to Somgene Rattanamaneejarat in Year 9. Somgene’s surrealist self portrait replaces her eyes with butterflies, creating a tension between beauty and nightmare. Her hair turns into a waterfall, adding to the sense of mystery.
At St Andrews Bangkok, we believe that every child has the potential to discover and develop a unique musical voice. Our Instrumental Programme offers students an extraordinary opportunity to explore and master a range of musical instruments, fostering a lifelong love for music and enhancing their cognitive and creative development.
St Andrews International School Bangkok students had remarkable success in the Virtual Young Musician 2024 competition, held by Nord Anglia Education Global Campus.
We had the honour of hosting Ms Hilary Easton at St Andrews International School Bangkok for an exciting week of dance workshops. A New York native, artistic director of her own contemporary dance company Hilary Easton + Company, and a distinguished Dance Composition specialist at Juilliard, Hilary certainly came in with a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.
