Community Sports Day was a huge success with the St Andrews International School community coming together to enjoy sport. Our boys’ Varsity basketball team took part in an international tournament and our U13 boys’ Blaze ballers take second place at their TISAC tournament. Catch up on all of the results and take a look ahead at some important events ahead in what will be a very busy month of November.
Thank you to everyone who came to our third Community Sports Day last Saturday. It was lovely to see staff and parents mixing up in some informal, entertaining sport. We hope you enjoyed it.
Please note that we’ll plan for another STACSD for Term 2.
Many thanks to the PTG and our fantastic community for supporting the event.
Our Varsity boys attended a strong championships this weekend, with some tough competition from the region. They enjoyed a good win-loss ratio that put them into the semis, where they were narrowly beaten by ABAC (the University team) in the last minute. They went on to win the play-off, taking 3rd place overall.
We enter the BISAC Varsity & JV season now, ending with tournaments on 19 January and 2 February, with the Senior Pattaya Games also on 2 February.
On Sunday, 2 December, we’ve entered a U16 team into a local academy tournament, and next week, the U15s travel to Phuket for their FOBISIA Games. Please see updates and photos on our STA Flames & Marlins Facebook group page.
Our U13B Blaze team entered the TISAC tournament on Saturday. They did really well, going all the way to the final where they were narrowly beaten to become runners-up. This is a great achievement for our Development team and we were pleased to see them embrace the challenge so well.
Our High School Marlins swimmers put in an amazing effort at the ISB Swimfest at the weekend. STA was 5th out of 21 teams with our 15 and over Girls Team finishing second in the overall rankings. It was a really excellent team effort from everyone involved, especially our STA parents. We look forward to seeing you all again next Saturday at our very own STA Swim Champs. Well done Marlins!
Games start this week for BISAC Season 2 (U13/U15 Football, Varsity & JV Basketball, Varsity Rugby & Touch).
We’ve made an exciting change to the way that we group the students in PE. This will allow them all to enjoy mixed ability and gender groups, as well as a broad range of activities throughout the year.
The students will be in one of 6 groups, selected alphabetically. This has mixed them up and gives them a chance to socialise with students who may not be in their tutor group. They will remain in these groups for the remainder of the year, with one teacher responsible for them.
They will then enjoy a range of activities including different invasion games (basketball, football, rugby for example); net games (e.g. badminton, volleyball); striking games (e.g. softball) and fitness activities.
The focus in PE will remain on students not only developing sport & activity specific skills, but also on a whole range of skills that will enable them to be lifelong learners. At the heart of all this is a hope that our students also develop a love of being active and healthy!
We haven’t forgotten Badminton! We’ll be having trials near the end of this term and will enter our teams into the TISAC tournaments later in the year. This will give us some good preparation time. We’ll have two training slots next term, so that we can split our squads up and give everyone more court time.
We have several trips coming up soon as follows:
November
U15 FOBISIA Games
Phuket Soccer 7s
February
Senior Games, Pattaya
March
U13 FOBISIA Games
Phuket 3on3
FOBISIA Tennis, New Delhi
FOBISIA Golf
March, in particular, is a busy time and there may be some tough decisions to be made about which trips to go on.
Please stay up-to-date by joining our STA Flames & Marlins Facebook closed group for parents and students who are part of our Sports Programme.
As it’s a closed group not open to the general public, please complete the questions so that we know if you’re part of our STA community.
Parents may post to this group and it’s been great to see some of your photos of our kids in action!
